The other day, the US government announced that they had an option to conclude a peace treaty with North Korea on the condition that all of the nuclear facilities were dismantled. But I don’t think this is the way to go for the following two reasons.
It is firstly because the treaty will send a dangerous massage to the world: Get nukes first. The purpose of the treaty would be to keep North Korea’s nuclear sites under surveillance, as is the case for India, but the consequence will be the other way round. The treaty will accelerate nuclear proliferation.
Secondly, if North Korea betrays the treaty as it did to many international agreements in the past, the conditions will be much more exacerbated. They may divert nuclear technology from the US to military use.
First, let us have a look at what is going on. The attitude of countries toward nuclear development is changing. Unlike a decade ago, a growing number of countries have become nuclear wannabes. Why is that? It is because they have realized that nuke is really a strong bargaining chip. Take the example of India. When it first tested a nuclear bomb, it became the object of international criticism at first. However, now that no one believes India will disassemble nuclear arsenal some day, many countries are now trying to cooperate with India, partly because cooperation will make it easier to supervise its nuclear facilities, and partly because they want India’s geopolitical power. The US and Japan are ones of them. India gained supports from superpowers in the end thanks to the nuclear bombs. What was the massage? It was; once you endure transient sanctions from others, you can win the power both military and diplomatic.
Looking at examples like this, some countries like Brazil are reviewing their nuclear policy. They now regret they signed NPT, which India and Pakistan have not inked. NPT serves as the last deterrent for these countries to go nuclear. Then, what will happen if the US conclude a peace treaty with North Korea and back up nuclear power plant? The NPT members will think that even if one country is a member, it is highly likely that once it engages in nuclear weapons development, the bombs will go in one’s favor at the end of the day. It is not hard to imagine that some of the NPT members withdraw from NPT and develop nukes on their own. Such world will not benefit the US either.
Secondly, we must take into account that North Korea is a rogue state like Iraq was. Remember that Iraq was once militarily supported by western countries including US. Iraq was an ally at first, but reversed itself later. In both cases of Gulf War and Iraq War, Iraq used western-made weapons. What if a similar thing happens to North Korea? The next weapon that US must combat may not conventional one but nukes.
From these reasons above, I oppose the peace treaty.

classical wave equation
I opened a book on quantum mechanics after a long interval.
I realized again that physics is beautiful.
It has so strong logical foundations.
Why I took on studying physics again is that I’ ve got in charge of the inner seminar on crystallography in the lab I belong to.
I sent an e-mail of the info to all the members (it took so long time).
The last words of the mail is: Come on, those who see (-∇^2)Ψ as an emocotion.
I’m a bit afraid ,and much thrilled of how they will react to this.

【DVD】The Lives of Ohers:Das Leben der Anderen

"Das Leben der Anderen"
This is a story of East Berlin, when the wall was up.
I rent this DVD soon after I found it enjoyed a good reputation at Yahoo Movie Review.
It’s great as people say it is.
The last line of Wiesler touched an emotional chord.
It seemed the whole two hours is devoted to this line.
I really wished I had been able to understand Germany.
If I had been, the line must have been more impressive.
The film explores exactly how devastating the unrelenting surveillance of a police state is to the lives of the people under such regimes.
But we must remember that the story is not over now.
It seems that there are still some officers in the current government of Germany whose black past is still not revealed yet.
Some people are struggling to reconstruct the documents shredded when East and West Germany was reunified.
There are as many as 43 million slips of paper.
A recent technology, called E-puzzler software, has allowed them to increase work pace, but they are out of frying pan into fire.
The government is to cut the budget for the project.
Foresight magazine analyzes that this is because there must be some politician with a murky past.

A book to save you: No more self-hatred
I read a book as named above.
This book really helps.
The main massage is: Begin with what you really can do.
Most people who are annoyed with themselves, says the author, set their goal too high.
That’s why they cannot make progress.
They say they know it but they can’t do it.
This is quite a contradiction, but most people don’t realize it, and neither did I.
However small the goal is, as long as you cannot achieve it, it’s not what you can do now.
A story of a socially withdrawn sufferer was impressive.
He couldn’t work, go shopping or even clean his room on his own.
When the author first met him, he asked; “Find out what you can do from now on.”
“Then, I will clean my room for myself from now on.” he answered.
“Are you sure? I heard you’ve tried to do it but couldn’t. Remember, find out what you really can do.”
The last answer he reached was that he would line up his slippers when he goes out of the bathroom.
This was the first goal.
They were serious.
This is the only way and the best way to make progress, emphasizes the author.
Slow, it seems, but sure.
“Begin with what you really can do.”
Six months later, he succeeded in getting back on the payroll.
I have been, and am, suffering from self-hatred recently.
But this book really mitigated my feelings, and actually allowed me to make progress.
Good thing I came across this book.
